Oh hello there! It’s been a while…in my last post, I mentioned my strong focus on Instagram which has been great! I’ve really enjoyed creating content I’m proud of and experimenting with new platforms. I recently joined TikTok in December 2019 and it’s been a blast I’m not going to lie. I’ve had so many comments (not directed to me) but in general about how milennials are “too old” for TikTok. The way I see it (for content creators), especially as a social media manager, it’s important to stay on top on trending platforms and how they operate. Not saying you have to create daily content for every platform but it’s worth being in the know, especially when your career revolves so heavily around social media. I remember being asked in an interview if I think “older people” can succeed as social media managers and I replied with “If you keep up with it, it’s definitely possible”. Then I thought to myself, why am I so against being on the app just because it’s primary audience is younger people? I realized if I want to succeed in my career in social media/digital marketing, I need to keep up with the times, whether I like it or not. I ended up falling in love with TikTok. I love how creative people are and how they take their own spin on different concepts. Yes, there’s a lot of entertaining ones but I find it incredibly talented if you can get your point across in a short amount of time. Nowadays, people’s attention spans aren’t that long so sometimes it’s just better to get to the point. For instance, I can no longer watch clothing hauls on Youtube because I feel like they’re dragged out and I want to see the items only.
Totally trailing off from my point and from what this blog post is going to be about…anyways, back to it! Alongside getting out of my comfort zone (even more) and my motivation to create what I love and do what I love, I wanted to share with you my 2020 goals for the year. It is mid-January already but I wanted to share them anyways. I always love going back to my blog or social media to see how much I’ve changed. Whether it’s writing styles, clothing styles, etc., the one thing I love about having my life documented is being able to see how much I’ve grown, learned, improved and so much more.
1) Reach 5000 Instagram Followers
This one is always an issue. Growing on any social media is incredibly hard since so many people want to be creators! Nothing wrong with it, but it’s definitely hard to stand out more so than before.
2) Create more video content
I’ve been loving video content. Whether it’s long or short, video content is so much fun to create and I have been loving learning new editing techniques on Premiere Pro. If you notice in my videos, I’m not consistent in the editing style yet because I am still learning what I love and what I think is “my style”. I also ALWAYS have something I’ve been wanting to learn so I try to implement little things like that in all my videos.
3) Learn Spark AR to make AR Filters
This has been on my list for over half a year…before Spark AR was even open to everyone! In 2019, I kept giving up if I didn’t get it right away. I tend to catch onto things really quickly so if I don’t, I get easily frustrated and want to give up. It also doesn’t help when you have a 9-5 and have a social media presence to keep up to date! Spark AR has been difficult for me to learn and I think it’s because I have experience coding (from university). Spark AR is simplified but the simplicity makes me overanalyze the functions and commands they offer and the interface of it confuses me so much! If you see Instagram filters on my feed in 2020, just know I’m probably REALLY proud of it because it’s been something I’ve been wanting to learn for a while.
4) Go back to playing piano
If you know me, you’d know I play piano but recently, I’ve been listening to music and the piano in the songs are so incredible it’s made me want to go back to learning! I learned classical when I was younger so it’ll be fun to learn songs I truly want to learn.
5) Attend a NYFW show
Okay, this one is a huge leap of faith but also I’m really motivated to continue to create quality content and implementing growth strategies across all platforms so I am hoping to attend NYFW in September 2020! Attending NYFW, LFW, MFW and PFW has always been a dream of mine so I’m going to work hard this year (more so than ever) to achieve this goal.
6) Work with Storets and Bonlook
I constantly talk about how much I love Bonlook (eyewear store) and Storets (online clothing store) and to work with them as a content creator would be the ultimate goal. Bonlook glasses helped me reach a new confidence level in my appearance (glasses can make such a difference!) and Storets has so many unique clothing pieces that I love to try out and I end up wearing them on repeat (even if it’s a statement piece)
7) Film A Second A Day
At the end of 2019, I was a bit upset I didn’t have an “End of the Year” video like I did in 2016 and 2017. I realized how much I love capturing moments on camera and compiling at the end of the year so I decided to do one of those second a day videos and so far, I’ve been really loving how it’s turning out. It makes me so happy to see all the happy moments in my life!
8) Save More Money
Of course there’s always going to be this financial goal but the people closest to me know of the financial struggle I went through last year and now that I have a new job (I started at the end of October!), it’s removed this huge weight I had on my shoulders. So 2020 is all about saving!
9) Learn more photo editing techniques
A huge struggle I face is lacking the knowledge of photo editing techniques. I have always been self-taught and wanting to do more advanced things with photo editing has been a bump in the road and definitely has detered me away from getting content because I think it’s either too dark or no way to work with the lighting. I started to learn more last year if you read my “How To Step Up Your Editing Game” blog post but I definitely think there is so much more for me to learn and that’s something I’m determined on achieving. It’ll be a huge help and I will always be able to get content!
10) Experiment with monochromatic and bolder colourblocking outfits
A huge fashion influence on me lately has been Caroline Vazzana. She has such incredible outfits and after following her on Instagram (after reading her book, Making it in Manhattan), I’ve been so inspired to try even bolder outfits and continue to experiment. I’m always associated with neutrals and earth tones despite how much I wear colour. Believe me, I love neutrals because of how versatile it can be but you all know how much I love a good statement piece, especially a colourful lone!
11) Take more of an artistic approach to my photographs
Last year was all about being more comfortable in my own skin when it comes to posing in front of the camera and 2020 is going to be all about having a more artistic approach to the art direction and editing! Something I never posted to Instagram (yet) is the photo below. It was actually taken before the H&M x Giambattista Valli collaboration was shown and it gave me such Kendall Jenner vibes when I looked back at my photo. I would love to continue this!
Anyways, I could probably trail off and list many more goals of mine but these are the ones I am very determined to achieve this year! What are your new years goals? Let me know in the comments below!
