An Honest Review of SheIn + Recommendations

One of the questions that I constantly get asked are related to the quality of SheIn. SheIn is one of those websites that a lot of people are skeptical of. To be honest, I never was skeptical because when I was introduced to the brand, it was through Lookbook.nu and EVERYONE bought their clothes there so to me, I knew that when I turned 18 and got my own credit card, SheIn was one of the first places I wanted to shop at. Over the last couple of years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with them and I’ve really been able to develop a process on how to pick items from them and what I recommend and not recommend. For this post, I wanted to showcase old photos and blog posts and let you know if I liked it or not and how I choose my items from them.

TIPS ON HOW TO SHOP ON SHEIN

Always remember that they use Asian sizing standards

One of the things people forget is that when you’re shopping in a different country, the sizing standards are different. Asians are smaller so their size guide is different than American sizing.  I usually rely on the SheIn’s sizing when I choose an item to give myself an idea of which size to pick

Read the reviews and look at the gallery

The great thing about SheIn is that when they work with influencers, they use the photos they take and add it to their gallery. I never rely on the catalogue photobecause sometimes they use it from other websites. It gives a better idea of what you’re going to receive. It’s also important to look at the material it’s made out of because it doesn’t always match the picture.

REVIEW ON PAST ITEMS THAT WERE SENT TO ME + HOW I PICK MY ITEMS

YOU CAN NEVER GO WRONG WITH SWEATERS

I always have great experiences with their sweaters. I’ve never had one that the quality was so bad that I had to get rid of it. One of  my favourite all time sweaters I wear (and I mean, I wear it A LOT) is this grey ruffled sweater I received last year! Another great one is the red layered sweater I wore in a collaboration post. I love choosing sweaters from them because I feel like the quality has always been great. As for my last favourite sweater, it is definitely the one I wore in my $100 Outfit Challenge: Winter Edition.

AVOID OVERALLS

Whenever I’ve tried to get overalls from them, corduroy or denim, it never works out. I don’t understand why exactly but the fit and quality of the overalls is not great at all. I wore one in my second blogiversary post where the fit was not flattering on myself (even using the size guide) and the buttons were not secure at all and broke easily. I voiced my concern to the company and made sure they were aware at the horrible quality.

SATIN IS YOUR FRIEND, COTTON SHIRTS ARE NOT

I’ve been very happy with two of the blouses that I received from them is this floral neck tie blouse and one shoulder polka dot blouse. Both of these pieces are equivalent to the quality of Forever21 Contemporary section.  I  absolutely love the design and feel of both items and definitely think it would be worth the money. I wore both of these pieces a lot during the summer and are obsessed with them! Whereas when I receive cotton shirts, the fit is more baggy than expected like in this post and for a purple plaid shirt you’ll be seeing in next week’s post where I talk about adding colour to your fall wardrobe!

IT’S A HIT OR MISS WITH DENIM

Like I mentioned before, I’ve had no luck when it comes to overalls. Surprisingly, for my coveted pearl jeans that I received from them last December, they are one of my top faves when it comes to jeans. I wear them ALL the time and the pearls have never come off. They also are very comfy, especially behind the knee area.

AVOID LEATHER

The only reason I say to avoid leather, is because the price you’re paying is low and that is because there is no lining on the inside of the leather. I’m not sure if it’s only this one particular pair but if you were to turn the leather shorts inside out, you see that there is nothing but the fabric. Other than that, the design and the fit of the shorts were perfect!

AVOID COLD SHOULDER/HALTER TOPS

I’ve had two experiences with SheIn where I received cold shoulder/halter tops and I was not impressed with the fact that the arms had no elastic to it. Basically, the fabric does not stretch in that area so you can’t move your arms so much.

IF YOU’RE GOING TO GO FOR A JACKET, GO FOR A BLAZER

It’s been a hit or miss when it comes to jackets for me. I did receive a yellow embroidered jacket that the type of fabric wrinkled very easily which was the only downfall.  When I’ve received something like a blazer like below, it’s like any other typical thin blazer that’s available in stores!

Signature pose is back ✌🏼

Overall, I don’t think the website is a scam. Prior to blogging, I always received great customer service (even with the time difference, they got back to me quickly) and the quality has been most of the time great and very comparable to things I’ve purchased from Forever21. I do think, that with any company you need to take the time to see what items from a certain store works best for you/are made the best. For instance, I never buy pants from H&M or denim from Forever21 because they always shrink but will always buy accessories from both places and other items. If there’s ever an item you see on my blog that you’d like to know more of an in-depth review versus a styling post, let me know in the comments below!

Exactly! Sometimes you have amazing things as well – the sweaters are still in perfect condition!
