Spring Trends You Can Start Shopping For Now

This year has been flying by for me. It most likely is because I’m constantly busy. I’m at work from 9-5, Monday to Friday and on top of that, I have a 4-4.5 hour commute every day (that’s only the weekdays!) On the weekends, most people know that I’m always with my boyfriend on Fridays, a blog work day on Saturdays and shooting with Carolina on Sundays. My life is pretty jam packed so as much as I like constantly doing something, it could also be physically draining. I’m not going to lie, it’s been an incredible experience working in social media at an established beauty company. I’ve been able to create content on a regular basis and get a good look at what it’s like being on the brand side of things.

Spring is my second favourite season of the year. Yes, I am that basic person who loves autumn but I have my reasons; autumn is all about getting ready for the colder season so with the changing of the leaves, the weather, it’s about getting cozy and who doesn’t love that? It’s when you start to layer up and are able to wear light coats, trench coats, skirts and knee high socks, etc. etc. Spring is the next best in my opinion because it’s the only other time you get to play with layers and not want to struggle with the constant “I’m too hot”/”I’m too cold” scenarios during summer and winter.

Ever seen I’ve been seeing certain trends that I know will be great for spring, I couldn’t help but get excited for posting about spring trends! Yes, I know that the weather in Toronto doesn’t exactly scream “Spring is here” but that’s why I added “You Can Start Shopping Now”. So for anyone who wants to get a head start on their spring shopping, here is what you should keep an eye out for in stores:

Polka dots may remind you of your childhood (I know it does for me) but you can still look classy in it. Polka dots are the cutest way to channel those spring and summer vibes; they’re a very fun print and can easily have retro vibes or a classy look depending on the look of the item.  Emma Leger from West Coast Kinda Girl does a fab job at looking chic in polka dots in this matching polka dot set.

I mentioned this trend in a previous post this year called “7 Future Trends You’ll Want To Try Before Everyone Else Does” back in January. Now that spring is slowly approaching, I’d say GO FOR IT. Purple is all the rave since it was announced Pantone’s Colour of the Year. Granted, the colour is actually ultraviolent (which is more a deep purple), lilac/lavender shade has been spoken about a lot in terms of clothing. For anyone who saw my Lavender Lookbook last year, you bet I’m stoked to be wearing those pieces again which is why I am rewearing an outfit from the Lavender Lookbook below but I changed it up by adding a light purple beret. This outfit also shows more than one shade of purple so it was perfect for this post!

I’ve been loving sequins the last 6 months or so but the only thing I hate about it is that it can easily fall off when you wash it! You all know I have my coloured sequinned sweater that I adore from Zara but we’ve been seeing sequins everywhere on the runways (recall that moment at Versace where all the top supermodels got together for the closing). If the iconic supermodels are wearing it, you know it’ll be a trend.

We all know that pastels will be a classic spring trend that will never go out of style but this year, bright and bold colours have been seen on the runways, the street, etc. To be honest, I don’t know if I’d be able to pull off this trend with just any colour but the way I’ve worn it is by wearing a a hot pink beret. It’s seen in my 1 Item, 3 Ways: Sequinned Sweater post (snippet shown above) and I ADORE how it looks at the end. I want more berets that match the other colours in the sweater so if anyone finds a bright purple or teal beret, HIT ME UP.

I’ve been on the hunt for an affordable but great quality tulle skirt for some time now; probably about 3 years to be honest! Tulle skirts have been evolving over the last few years. From the typical ballerina look to tulle tiered skirts, tulle is the one fabric to watch out for this year. If someone knows how to pull off tulle, it’s Jordan from Hello Miss Jordan! She always looks like a princess in her posts and she even got to design a tulle skirt which is absolutely stunning.

Pastels will never not be a spring trend;  it’s like how burgundy/maroon and army green will always be the go-to colours for autumn. I love pastels during the spring time, it just screams new season and freshness. I’ve been loving pastel looks for winter as well! Hence why I’ve been wearing the lilac sweater from above and my pastel pink cashmere sweater below so much this winter. I still wear my earthy tones a lot but I love creating winter looks with pastel looks because it can easily be transitioned into spring!

Thanks so much Austen! I’m obsessed with the polka dots trend – I’m pumped to wear it more when it gets warmer 🙂
